Visa-Free Countries for Indian Passport

Visa-free countries for Indian passport holders in 2026: Thailand, Maldives and Sri Lanka lead 25+ verified picks, with real fees, stay limits and entry rules.

Most "visa-free countries for Indian passport holders" lists floating around online are copy-pasted from each other and quietly out of date. Visa rules move fast, entry requirements got a real shuffle through 2025 and 2026, and a couple of long-standing free arrangements have actually gotten shorter this year, not longer. Here is what is genuinely true right now, checked against official sources rather than last year's blog post.

Start with the destinations you can actually book through us. The Maldives is still one of the easiest stamps you'll get: a free 30-day visa on arrival, no pre-approval needed, just a return ticket, a resort or hotel booking, and the IMUGA traveller declaration filed up to 96 hours out. Malaysia is nearly as simple — free for 30 days, now extended through 31 December 2026 — though don't skip the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card, which needs doing a few days before you fly. Thailand is the one where the rules actually changed this year: the pandemic-era 60-day exemption got cut to 30 days from 15 September 2026. Entry itself is still free with no advance visa application, but you do need the Thailand Digital Arrival Card filled in during the 72 hours before you land.

Sri Lanka changed its system again this year. Since 25 May 2026, Indian travellers get a completely free Electronic Travel Authorization valid for 30 days, with double entry allowed — a genuine improvement over the paid ETA that existed before. Bhutan works differently: Indians don't need a visa at all, just an online permit, but a Sustainable Development Fee of ₹1,200 per adult per night applies beyond 24-hour border-town visits to Phuentsholing, Samtse, Gelephu or Samdrup Jongkhar. It's not free travel, but it's not a visa hurdle either. Kenya is the one to be honest about: since January 2024 it dropped visas entirely, but replaced them with a mandatory eTA that costs roughly $34 and needs at least three days' processing — genuinely simpler than the old system, but not free.

Beyond our catalog, Indian passport holders currently get real visa-free or on-arrival access to Nepal (no time limit, just a valid ID), Mauritius (90 days), Seychelles (a straightforward visa on arrival), Indonesia, Fiji, and a cluster of Caribbean nations including Jamaica, Barbados, Dominica and Grenada. India's passport typically ranks in the high-70s to low-80s globally on the Henley Passport Index through 2026 — the exact number shifts with each quarterly update — with roughly 55 to 59 destinations reachable visa-free, on arrival, or via e-visa: respectable, if not spectacular, and worth knowing so you don't rule out a trip based on outdated assumptions.

One caution that trips people up: visa-free never means paperwork-free. Thailand, Malaysia and the Maldives all now run mandatory digital arrival cards that immigration checks on landing, and missing one can mean delays even if your visa status is fine. Carry proof of onward travel, accommodation and funds regardless of what the visa policy says — airline check-in staff and immigration officers at the counter are the ones who actually enforce these rules, and "visa-free" won't save you if your passport has less than six months' validity left.

If Thailand's new 30-day window still fits your travel dates, or you'd rather lock in Maldives, Sri Lanka or Bhutan while the rules are this favourable, it's worth comparing package rates before airfares catch up with the news.
